About the Company
Our client is a growing Managed IT Services provider based in Ottawa. They work closely with small and mid-sized businesses across various industries, helping them stay secure, connected, and ahead of the curve. Known for their hands-on approach and responsive service, they’ve built a reputation for being reliable, resourceful, and genuinely invested in their clients’ success.

The Role
They’re looking for a Network Administrator with strong Linux expertise and working knowledge of Proxmox environments. While Proxmox support is supplemented by a third-party provider, this role requires someone who can lead internally, coordinate with external support, and own the overall networking and infrastructure stability for clients. You’ll play a key role in guiding best practices, ensuring uptime, security, and regulatory compliance, and maintaining a high standard of service delivery. This is an ideal position for someone who wants to be hands-on but also take ownership and provide technical leadership within the team.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Acting as the internal lead for network infrastructure and Proxmox environments, collaborating with third-party Proxmox support as needed
  • Administering and maintaining Linux-based servers (primarily Debian/Ubuntu and Red Hat-based) across multiple clients
  • Overseeing and enforcing networking best practices for client environments including:
  • Firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing, and switching
  • DNS/DHCP services and access control
  • Network segmentation and secure remote access
  • Ensuring uptime, resilience, and failover capabilities across infrastructure
  • Coordinating backup strategies and disaster recovery planning (e.g., Veeam, Proxmox Backup Server)
  • Maintaining detailed documentation for configurations, change logs, SOPs, and compliance requirements
  • Participating in compliance and audit preparation efforts to ensure clients meet required standards (e.g., SOC 2, NIST, CIS)
  • Collaborating with the service team and project managers to deliver high-quality solutions and resolve client issues
  • Supporting system and network monitoring, alerting, and preventative maintenance routines
  • Participating in on-call rotations for critical incidents or after-hours maintenance

What They’re Looking For
  • 3+ years of experience in a network and systems administration role
  • Solid knowledge of Proxmox VE (setup, configuration, cluster awareness); you’ll lead internally while working alongside a third-party Proxmox support provider
  • Strong Linux administration skills with scripting experience (Bash, Python, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of networking concepts and protocols: TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, VPNs, NAT, firewall policies
  • Experience with network and infrastructure compliance (bonus if you’ve worked with SOC 2, CIS Controls, ISO 27001, etc.)
  • Familiarity with tools such as pfSense, OpenVPN, Ansible, Zabbix
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, and the ability to enforce best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and interpersonal communication skills
  • A leadership mindset and the ability to guide junior team members or collaborate with cross-functional teams

Bonus Points For
  • Experience working in an MSP or client-facing IT environment
  • Certifications such as Network+, Linux+, RHCSA, or CompTIA Security+
  • Experience with Windows-based systems, Active Directory, and Office 365
  • Exposure to backup and recovery tools like Veeam or Bacula
  • Familiarity with compliance reporting or audit support

Why Join This Team?
  • Take a leadership role in shaping customer infrastructure strategies and security posture
  • Collaborate with a knowledgeable, motivated team who values trust and autonomy
  • Exposure to a broad set of technologies and client industries
  • Clear opportunities for growth, training, and certifications
  • Competitive salary and benefits in a company that’s growing and values its people
