With decades of success, the company is entering an exciting phase of growth, including expansion into new provinces and increased operational complexity. To support this momentum, they are hiring their first-ever Company Controller
to establish financial structure and help lead the business into its next chapter.
About the Role
This newly created position is ideal for a hands-on, detail-driven financial professional who wants to make a real impact. As Company Controller, you’ll be responsible for managing all financial operations, building internal processes, supporting leadership with analysis, and overseeing a small internal accounting team. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams including sales, logistics, and buying to ensure accurate reporting and informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Oversee daily accounting operations: AP/AR, general ledger, payroll, and bank reconciliations
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning initiatives
- Deliver KPI reporting, variance analysis, and actionable insights to support leadership
- Liaise with external accountants for tax filings, audits, and compliance
Vendor & Inventory Oversight:
- Monitor vendor performance and assist with cost-saving and payment optimization strategies
- Support inventory costing and implement control procedures to improve accuracy
- Conduct audits and collaborate with department heads to reduce discrepancies
Team Leadership:
- Supervise a small accounting team and support their development through coaching and performance management
- Foster a positive, efficient, and detail-oriented environment
- Support operations and business decisions with reliable financial data and recommendations
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- CPA designation is a strong asset
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in wholesale, grocery, or retail environments
- Previous experience managing accounting staff and functions
- Proficient in Simply Accounting and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); LOC software familiarity is an asset
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working onsite in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
